Copying pages to Web servers

Need to copy your html pages to the Web? Learn about your options for copying or transferring your pages to a Business School Web server. Choosing the best option depends on whether you are working off-campus or on-campus.

Off campus

SSH Client The best option if you are running Win98 or Win ME off campus.
I downloaded from the link at the left and installed it on my computers (one is Windows 98 and the other one is Windows 2000). It works perfectly fine. The students might mistakenly click on the "Secure Shell Client" instead of "Secure File Transfer Client". Because I made the same mistake. Once the students install the SSH, it will generate 3 shortcuts on the desktop which make the icon for "Secure File Transfer" doesn't look obvious while the "Secure Shell Client" icon is very obvious. Both of the programs are generating the same or at least very similar step/GUI interfaces as described on the link at the left. Febiana Haryono
Mapping The best option if you are running Win2000 off campus. But, if you are running Win 98 or ME this option requires extensive setup preparation. Mapping the Web server means that it will appear as a drive (E:, F:) on your computer. You can then copy files to the new drive just as you would copy files to a floppy.

Fall 2003 update: for improved security the UT ITS division now blocks all remote requests for mapping. This results in no mapping off campus. You can however, enjoy a virtual private network connection to McCombs thanks to Lynn Hartley. Her tested instructions are available in the link below. If you get a dial-up error, just repeat the steps and change Connection Availability to "Anyone else" instead of "My use only". Enjoy.
