STA309: TI-36X Solar Calculator

Think of the calculator keyboard like that of a computer keyboard -- there are shift keys on both. We use shift keys (Shift, Ctrl and Alt) to change the pupose of standard keys. This is true with the calculator keyboard as well.

One-variable statistics

  1. Begin by clearing memory (off-on)
  2. Select 1-variable stat mode (3rd, stat 1 -- the 3rd key is a "shift key")
  3. Type a number (8) then enter it (Sum+)
  4. If you entered an error remove it by retyping the error then (Sum-)
  5. If you mistyped a number remove it with (CE clear entry) if NOT already entered
  6. Type a number (6) then enter it (Sum+)
  7. Type a number (18) then enter it (Sum+)
  8. Type a number (30) then enter it (Sum+)
  9. Type a number (20) then enter it (Sum+)
  10. Type a number (10) then enter it (Sum+)
  11. Type a number (3) then enter it (Sum+)
  12. Find the mean of x (2nd, x-bar)  [ 13.571 ]
  13. Find the sample st dev of x (2nd, sigmaX n-1)  [ 9.519 ]
  14. Find the * population st dev of x (2nd, sigmaX n) [* rarely used in STA309]

Two-variable statistics

  1. Begin 2-variable stat mode by clearing memory (off-on)
  2. Select 2-variable stat mode (3rd, stat 2 -- the 3rd key is a "shift key")
  3. Be clear about "y" as the response, "x" as the explanatory variables
  4. Type an x number (8) enter it (x<>y) then a y number (310) and enter it (Sum+)
  5. If you entered a pair in error remove the pair by retyping them then (Sum-)
  6. Type an x number (6) enter it (x<>y) then a y number (290) and enter it (Sum+)
  7. Type an x number (18) enter it (x<>y) then a y number (500) and enter it (Sum+)
  8. Type an x number (30) enter it (x<>y) then a y number (800) and enter it (Sum+)
  9. Type an x number (20) enter it (x<>y) then a y number (470) and enter it (Sum+)
  10. Type an x number (10) enter it (x<>y) then a y number (330) and enter it (Sum+)
  11. Type an x number (3) enter it (x<>y) then a y number (150) and enter it (Sum+)
  12. Find the mean of x (2nd, x-bar) [ see below ]
  13. Find the mean of y (2nd, y-bar)
  14. Find the sample st dev of x (2nd, sigmaX n-1)
  15. Find the sample st dev of y (2nd, sigmaY n-1)
  16. Find the correlation of xy (3rd, COR)
  17. Find the intercept of xy (2rd, ITC)
